Food editors are a dying breed at newspapers – be very glad if you’ve still got one person dedicated to the dining scene in your area.
Deborah Hartz-Seely
After 30 years in the business, Deborah Hartz-Seely decided to leave while the section was at its prime.
Since Hartz didn’t do a goodbye column, and there was no announcement from the Sentinel regarding her leaving, her readers may be perplexed.
But her former colleague and friend Jan Norris interviewed her. Read Norris’ Q&A with Deb here. She had quite an interesting career.
Well, it is frustrating at first that Deborah Hartz-Seely leaves her post in its prime state without any announcement from her or from the publication. After reading the interview with her, I still don’t get the point of leaving a her post on its top. But then again, I need to respect her decision and must realize that we all have our own free-will. Rest assured, that the recipes and cooking tips she shared will forever be remembered by her avid readers like me.
Hopefully she can take her experience and turn it into a web column. I really enjoyed reading her stuff while she was published!

This is unfortunate, especially when someone such as Deborah left such a big impact on many people who had the pleasure to read her posts.
But as they say, it can often be best to leave while you are on top, rather than fade away.
A goodbye post would have been nice but it’s not something anyone should have any real qualms about.
I wish her all the best on her future projects.

Deborah Hartz-Seely is a very passionate column writer for the Sun Sentinel for many many years. I love her cooking tips and menus ideas. However, I was one of her fans who got disappointed when she suddenly drop her column. A mom who works online like me benefits a lot from her column. I hope she can put up a website soon!

After working for so many years in the same field, maybe a change is just what she needs to progress in life. Sometimes everyone just needs to figure out how their lives are doing and where they are heading. My Uncle worked for an airline for 25 years then out of the blue decided to become a tour guide in Mexico. Do what makes you happy.
This is really a sad news but I should understand the fact that Deborah has personal life as well that even though she loves the show, she has to make a very important decision.
